Grocery Store in Downtown Bryan?

The Wall Street Journal featured an article highlighting a new kind of convenient store popping up in larger downtowns. In places like Denver, Portland and Chicago. Anytime I ask locals living or working downtown what we need to help the livability and vibrancy of Downtown Bryan, top on the list is a small grocery store or Walgreens. Wanting to fan the flames of our home town revival I am always seeking to learn about trends in urban centers. In this video we scout out a beautifully done urban market with grocery items, specialty foods, self serve dining, a full service cafe, coffee bar, humidor, and novelty kitchen gadgets.

Concerning a grocery store in Downtown Bryan, while I agree, it would be convenient, we are lacking the critical mass to sustain it. At this point in our revitalization, a failed business concept is worse than not having one at all, but it doesn’t keep me from dreaming of a time when we will be able to sustain one.

In the meantime, we have a pharmacy IN Downtown Bryan OWNED by a grocery store! This is the perfect opportunity to introduce staple grocery items to create a Walgreens type environment. Next on the list…finding a way to make it happen!
