What is the purpose of LIFE IN DOWNTOWN anyway?

Our mission is be a resource to those that want to live in a human scale, walkable neighborhood and are energized and inspired by the hustle and bustle of this new urban lifestyle. We hope to provide data and facts about downtown that validate it as a growing and vibrant place, as well as, showcase the community, personality and culture of life in downtown.From its humble beginnings of passionate downtown pioneers to its fully staffed executive team, The Downtown Bryan Association works tirelessly to fulfill its mission of “creating, cultivating, and showcasing the commerce, culture, and community of our Downtown District by preserving the past and building a vibrant future”.Downtown has reached a critical mass of merchants and restaurants and brings thousands of people to downtown a month. It has become a preferred destination by many inside and outside of our community. While the work is never done, at Life In Downtown, we characterize this as Phase I of the revitalization and believe it has been a success.

Now it is time to set our eyes on Phase II – Sustainability. To minimize churn of our existing merchants and restaurants and to continually bring in new ones, the shop owners need consistent and predictable foot traffic outside of special events, that will generate sufficient volume of sales to allow small shops to:

• Hire staff to be able to support open hours that meet shoppers expectations
• Have an ongoing marketing budget
• Be able to pay themselves
• Generate an acceptable profit that rewards the risk taken when they venture out and start their own business.

To achieve this level of stability and sustainability, a vibrant and thriving resident scene is required. Life In Downtown hopes to be a window into our amazing downtown neighborhood to fan the flames of a hometown revival!
